Corona Virus(Covid-19) in Nigeria.

It is impossible to talk about the corona virus without identifying its host country China. In the public mind, the origin story of corona virus seems well fixed: in late 2019 someone at the now world-famous Huanan seafood market in Wuhan was infected with a virus from an animal, the rest is history as the virus spread like wildfire throughout China.

At first it was not known to be a worldwide virus , the virus was thought by the world to only affect the Chinese as they have a very different taste in the type of foods they eat, the virus is said to be gotten from an animal that was eaten by a human. In Wuhan were it was first discovered it killed a lot of people in the first few weeks of its existence, it was believed to be under control until it started going from one country to another until the whole world got affected by the virus.

The rapid spread of this virus in the Asian countries and then to other countries of the world leading to the World Health Organisation(WHO) to declare a pandemic.Nigeria is a country that hosts foreigners every year from investors to tourists, business men and its own citizens who are may be citizens of another country. The corona virus came into the country through an Italian who was earlier in an infected area, although he was tested for the symptoms and possessed none at the time it was later traced to him after someone was tested positive who was in contact with the Italian.

’’The virus is deadly’’ Mrs Okolo said once the virus attacks the human body, the effect starts with a mild cough( dry and a sore throat). The lungs are also attacked causing swelling of some sort and loss of ability to breath. The fear of contracting the virus has made many people afraid especially in the mortality rate of the elderly.She talks about the preventive measures and the reactions of Nigerians towards the virus.

The virus on arrival on 27th February 2020(4 months,3 weeks and 5 days ago)spread throughout the 36 states and the FCT Federal Capital Territory the virus has spread roundabout with the former capital city of Lagos having the highest infected rates, according to reports by NCDC(Nigeria Center for Disease Control) as of 22nd July 2020 there have been over 38,344 confirmed cases 15,815 discharged cases and 813 death cases. As of 22nd July 2020 there were 543 new cases reported from  15 states- Lagos (180), FCT(86), Kaduna (56), Edo (47), Ondo (37), Kwara (35), Ogun (19), Rivers (19), Kano (17), Ebonyi (16) Enugu (16), Delta (7), Bayelsa (4), Bauchi (3), Abia (1).

Effect of virus in Nigeria

The virus coming to Nigeria proved to Nigerians and the world that the country’s health system was poorly managed, before now the rich and wealthy in our society were able to travel out of the country for medical treatments and other privileges but now the virus closed the airports causing the prominent and ordinary men in the society to be attended to by the same Doctors and Nurses with no one considered more than the other.
